T. Middy has been looking (obsessively) at our pictures of the Lake District from this August. I don't know why: it's not as though it's beautiful there or anything. This was the B&B where we stayed, just across the river from Ambleside; this was our room and our view:
This was our walk into Ambleside every evening to have dinner:
The Riverside B & B, one of the nicest places we've stayed, is close to Loughrigg Fell and is a great starting point for numerous walks. Despite bringing The Wrong Shoes for every phase of my trip to Britain, I managed the four miles cross country to Grasmere:
There we called in on various Wordsworths, ate the most delicious gingerbread in the world, then took the (incredibly rocky) Coffin Route back around the other side of the two lakes. (Because one Wordsworth residence per day is not enough.)
See, it's not that nice, really.
Good news in New Orleans: a cold front is on its way, and temperatures may drop soon to the autumnal mid-80s. The bad news: the local TV news tonight has convinced me that the general malaise I've been experiencing since my return from New Zealand is the West Nile Virus.
Awesome pictures. Reminds me of some of the places TLB and I stayed in Scotland.
I am also pretty sure you do not have West Nile.

I want to go home. I want to go home now. (Even though home for me would most likely be a scuzzy shoebox in London hundreds of miles away from any of this.)

I'll post some more pictures of the pastoral-idyll variety tomorrow, once T.Middy has finished reminiscing about the gingerbread. We brought some home with us but scoffed it all at once. Jamie Oliver has his own version of it in his last book: I want to try making it so we don't have to move to Grasmere to gorge on it.
