Freedom isn't free: it costs $400. Or at least it costs $330, plus $70 for "biometrics." And on July 30, it goes up to $675.
Yes, fellow resident legal aliens, if you want to apply for US citizenship, this is the month to do it. Unless you want to pay an additional $275. Checks are payable to the Department of Homeland Security.
I'm getting off lightly, actually - the cost of a Green Card is going from $325 to $930. This increase in fees may be the reason for the huge increase in citizenship applications this year.
My Green Card will turn ten years old next May, so it needs replacing. But if/when I become a citizen, how will I get out of all those annoying market research phone polls asking to speak to a registered Lousiana voter?
Tomorrow I'm off to England, so the next blog post will come from London. Possibly from Top Shop on Oxford Street.
An academic, a writer, and a world traveler? My goodness, you better hope you don't end up on a watch list!
When they make a biopic of your life, will TMiddy be played by Gerard Depardieu?

Woody Allen, maybe.
